Fresh-faced and ambitious, Liam Whitcher is one of Durban’s hottest new acts. His rapid rise has seen him regularly performing at venues all of Durban including Stumpnose Brewey (Hillcrest), Westville Warehouse (Westville), Mulligans (DBN North), Aces Pizza (Morningside) and Altitude (Morningside).
Liam brings with him his energetic and outrageous style of storytelling, chronicling his childhood, parents and love life. All in that order. Never afraid to make himself the joke, Liam has a knack for making the uncomfortable comfortable and having audiences leave a show with a new perspective.
When not on stage, Liam is a talented comedy writer/director whose films have garnered numerous selections at film festivals locally and around the world. His earlier short film, ‘Skomline’, premiered at The Kleinkapp Short Film Festival in Centurion. But his biggest accomplishments came with his two comedic Independent feature films. The first, ‘Summer Torpe’, was selected at 10 film festivals. The highlights of which are:
Durban Film Mart – Selection
Kosice International Film Festival – 2nd Best feature film
Nukhufest – Semi-finalist
Eurasia International Film Festival – Semi-finalist
Canadian Cinematography Awards – Semi-finalist
The second feature, “Boxcar”, which is still being premiered, has been selected by:
